I wanted to research film collectives because I would love to be a part of one. Film sets and production companies in the US often reproduce colonial structures with oppressive hierarchies. Film collectives can be a way to decolonize the labor that goes into making cinema, which in turn impacts work that gets distributed. Meerkat Media Collective is a great example of a functional film collective that continues to evolve taking into account many voices and perspectives.
