Education and Cinema for Liberation and Youth Media Programs in NYC

Video and Text by Eleanor Galloway

I was interested in exploring what film and media tools are available to young people in New York City and whether it is possible to carry a Third Cinema ethos into these spaces. I explored the legacies of educators and thought leaders June Jordan and Paulo Freire and how their work intersected with the Third Cinema movement and had the opportunity to speak with educators at Educational Video Center and Kim Jameson, a retired NYC public high school film teacher, about their work.
